Recently discussing with work colleagues about how great asos.com is for buying designer brands at reasonable prices, we wondered if you would be able to buy stuff from them and resell it for more in a boutique retail store.
I went to their website and found nothing about doing the above in their terms and conditions so I decided I would e-mail them and asked the question.
My message;
Hi Asos,
Just a quick question, I read the terms and conditions of your site and it mentions nothing about re-selling stock or products purchased from you guys.
Just wondering if you have any rules about someone purchasing items from your site and then on selling them in a boutique retail store.
Thanks for your help,
William
Their reply;
Hello William,
Thank you for your email.
As we are an exclusive online retailer we sell directly to the public. Unfortunately, we do not offer wholesale.
Please get back to me if you have any further questions.
All the best,
Lauren
My reply;
Hi Lauren,
Thanks for your reply,
Sorry I didn’t explain myself well, I’m not after wholesale I’m just wondering if you have any rules about someone purchasing items frequently from your site at normal/full price and then selling them on in a small retail store.
Look forward to your reply,
William
Their reply after a few days;
Hello William,
Thanks for being so patient whilst we investigate this for you.
We have raised this with our management and I have just heard back from them regarding your query.
We have promised the various brands who’s products we sell that we will not knowingly supply to wholesalers.
However, it is also the case that we do not place any restrictions on what our customers do with our clothing once they have purchased it.
That being the case, our products are not intentionally sold for resale and we do reserve the right to restrict accounts at our discretion following significant cases of misuse, but legally you are entitled to dispose of your purchases in whatever way you’d like within the law.
I hope this solves your query but if you have any further queries please don’t hesitate to get back in touch.
P.S. Don’t forget to keep your account info up to date. To check or update your details, log into My Account and click ‘edit’ below your Address Book (remember to click ‘Save’ when you’re done.
All the best,
Christopher
So there you have if you wanted to know, technically you can’t but legally you can. To be honest I have no plans of doing this and on careful calculations one wouldn’t make any money out of it anyway. But thank you to asos.com Ltd for taking my question seriously.
